One collision. Twelve years old. And everything changed.

During a cheer practice, Alyson suffered a collision that altered her vision overnight. What followed wasn’t just recovery — it was years of navigating brain-based vision loss without clear answers. Though not immediately diagnosed, Alyson was living with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI), a condition that affects how the brain processes visual information.

In this episode of Dallas The Podcast, Alyson shares her journey with CVI, what it means to be legally blind due to brain-based vision loss, and how she rebuilt her life after trauma. She continued competing through middle school, high school, and college, refusing to let uncertainty define her future.

Now nearly two decades later, Alyson is married, teaching Braille online, and boldly stepping into new chapters — including a move to Costa Rica.

We talk about:
• Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI)
• Brain-based vision loss
• Delayed diagnosis
• Life after a cheer accident
• Disability, resilience, and identity
• Rebuilding your life after trauma

If you or someone you love is navigating vision loss, CVI, or a life-altering injury, this conversation is a reminder: vision is more than sight.
